A fairly standard modern Target Rifle (TR) with adjustable aluminium stock. It is set up with standard short range 25 yard rear sights. With roughly 8 clicks to a minute, elevation is also known out to 100 yards. So with that knowledge it’s possible to shoot considerably further distances without too much trouble.
By using riser blocks under the rear sight and adding “clicks” for the desired range it is possible to shoot this sight configuration out to 500 yards.
A little maths (or trial and error if range time allows) to determine the height to raise the rear sights will give the ability to use this standard set up for long range shooting and be competitive doing so.
If required, removing riser blocks from the foresight will also give additional elevation. Using adjustments in height on both the rear sight and foresight can give the advantage of maintaining a comfortable head position on the cheek piece, especially if there isn’t significant adjustment available to keep your eye in the correct position for the rear diopter.

Using short range sights can be troublesome though, but with the same rifle and riser block system being employed to aid with the major elevation changes this can be made easier.
Changing the sight to a long range appropriate type made by centra gives the advantage of elevation and windage markings. This allows for settings at a desired distance to be easily read and set as the markings on the sight can put back to zero when required.
See last 2 photos for close up of the centra sights on the adjustable riser blocks.
