Bisley and LRRFC Range Orders
You must read this and comply with these requirements. This is a combination of the NRA/MOD rules and those specific to LRRFC.
Only those in possession of a current NRA Safety Certification Card (SCC) may shoot unsupervised. All others must be supervised by a SCC holder acting as Range Officer/Safety Officer (RO) on a one-on-one basis.
No Semi Automatic rifles are allowed at LRRFC meetings.
Magazine fed rifles are allowed. Ammunition may be loaded into the magazine prior to shooting.
Hearing protection must be worn at all times when shooting and if there is shooting in progress nearby.
Firearms must only be loaded when on the firing point, pointing at your target and with the permission of the RCO.
“STOP Live Firing Ahead” boards must never be crossed when moving about on the range; on occasions these can be to the left and right of our shooting lane.
Spectators are welcome but ensure they are familiar with the range but please ensure they follow all aspects of range safety.
After shooting all rifles must be shown to be safe (bolt out and magazine removed).
All rifles must be cleared by the Range Officer before inserting a breach flag and removing from the firing point.
A breach flag must be inserted into the rifle chamber when not shooting to give a high visibility sign that the rifle is clear.
No-one to place any equipment on the firing point until instructed to by the RCO
Only shoot on your own target and do not fire practice shots into the sand
Dry firing is only permitted on the firing point
Rifles must be always pointed down range once unbagged or carried with the barrel pointing up and finger away from the trigger.
Missfires – If your rifle goes click and not bang you have a misfire and must follow the misfire procedure.
The 70mil rule is in force. Make sure that your rifle is pointed at your target when the bolt is closed. Never close the bolt when the rifle is pointed over the butts.
The Emergency Command is ‘STOP STOP STOP’. On hearing this you are to take your finger off the trigger, remain where you are with the rifle pointing down the range and await further instructions.
Anyone spotting a safety problem such as an intrusion onto the range, fire, livestock etc is to use the Emergency command and
then brief the RCO.
At Bisley a siren is used to signal when shooting is permitted to start and when it ends.
- One blast – shooting may commence, though you must still wait for the RCO to give you permission to shoot during HWDRPC competitions.
- Two Blasts – normal end of shooting, no more shots to be fired.
- Four or more blasts – emergency stop, all shooting must immediately cease.
If during the normal course of shooting you hear any siren blasts assume it is an emergency stop even if you only hear one as you may have missed the others.
Do not attempt to shoot under the influence of Alchol, Drugs or while taking Medication that may have adverse effects
It is the shooter’s responsibility to ensure any firearm used is in a safe working order.
No one (member or not) under the age of 14 can shoot without consent of the RCO who has to seek permission from the NRA in advance of the meeting.
Misfire procedure:
If on pulling the trigger the round does not fire the following procedure must be followed:
- Keep the firearm pointing downrange aiming at your target for 30 seconds.
- Raise your hand and inform the RCO or RO you have a possible misfire and ask for their assistance if necessary.
- Warn those around you that you have a possible misfire.
- Position your hand so that you can open the bolt without having your hand or any other part of your body behind the bolt as if the round fires as you open the bolt there’s potential for the bolt to travel back with huge force.
- Open the bolt and inspect the ejected round.
- Ask for help from the RCO/RO if you are in any doubt before loading another round
