History of the LRRFC

Generally rifles chambered for 0.22LR are shot competitely at distances out to 100 yards. The LRRFC was formed to shoot competitively at distances between 200 & 500 yards. It is possable to hit an NRA target at 600 yards, if conditions are favorable.

1934 | A G Banks first wrote about the “long range” performance of the .22LR cartridge |
1940 | Banks urged MoD (unsuccessfully) to train recruits in accurate shooting using .22RF rifles |
1948 | Col Turbutt gave a prize for shooting at 200 yards using the .22LR |
1953 | Turbutt gave another prize, for shooting at 300 yards |
1960 | Turbutt gave his third prize, for shooting at 500 yards |
1997 | 50th Turbutt meeting |
2000 | G Kolbe included a chapter on .22LR ballistics in his “Ballistics Handbook” |
2009 | 62nd Turbutt meeting; article in NRA Journal about the Turbutt prizes |
2010 | R S Kenchington began investigating .22LR ballistics on private range in Gloucestershire |
2011 | Kenchington’s article about LRRF shooting in Spring NRA Journal |
2012 | Kenchington won the 500 yds and aggregate at the 65th Turbutt meeting |
2013 | After correspondence with Kenchington, NRA held its first LR SB Match for TRSB and MRSB |
2013 | First invitation Autumn Meeting, 200 and 300 yds at Bisley, won by John Mead (99, 91) |
2015 | Informal discussions among interested competitors about forming a LRRFC |
2016 | Inaugural committee meeting of LRRFC; “Plumbulla Longe It”; recognition of SRSB rifle |
2016 | First Derbyshire v LRRFC Challenge Match at Thorpe Cloud |
2017 | Affiliation of LRRFC to NRA |
2018 | First LRRFC Summer Meeting and presentation of Campaign Cup, Treasurer’s spoon etc |
2019 | Carol Painting (inaugural Treasurer) died on 23 June |
2020 | Committee subscribed to purchase Old Gloryhunter Goblet for Summer Meeting TRSB |
2021 | Election of Chris Hazlehurst as Secretary; recognition of FCSB rifle |
2022 | LRRFC membership numbers pass 100 |
2023 | Successful application for Home Office approval of LRRFC |
2023 | First International Championship meeting at Bisley |
2023 | Election of Simon Edwards as Chairman and Richard Kenchington as President |
