History of the LRRFC

Generally rifles chambered for 0.22LR are shot competitely at distances out to 100 yards. The LRRFC was formed to shoot competitively at distances between 200 & 500 yards. It is possable to hit an NRA target at 600 yards, if conditions are favorable.

1887.22 rimfire cartridge (probably) developed by the J Stevens Arms & Tool Co, USA
1934A G Banks first wrote about the “long range” performance of the .22LR cartridge
1940Banks urged MoD (unsuccessfully) to train recruits in accurate shooting using .22RF rifles
1948Col Turbutt gave a prize for shooting at 200 yards using the .22LR
1953Turbutt gave another prize, for shooting at 300 yards
1960Turbutt gave his third prize, for shooting at 500 yards

2000G Kolbe included a chapter on .22LR ballistics in his “Ballistics Handbook”
200962nd Turbutt meeting; article in NRA Journal about the Turbutt prizes
2010R S Kenchington began investigating .22LR ballistics on private range in Gloucestershire

2012Kenchington won the 500 yds and aggregate at the 65th Turbutt meeting
2013After correspondence with Kenchington, NRA held its first LR SB Match for TRSB and MRSB
